Courses & EventsBCU 1 STAR AWARD The 1 Star award is a stepping stone to becoming a paddler. Designed as a basic award. teaching you basic personal paddling skills you need to get started. Course dates: MONDAY 15tH FEBUARY BCU 2 STAR AWARD The 2 Star award is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water. The development of of gaining a breadth of experiance, learning the movement of the boat and developingan understanding into how the paddle, boat and water interact. The ward is obtained by taking the assesment in both kayak and canoe, and will require not only the skill but also evidence of participation in 2 local competitions, or 2 journeys of 2 hour + durations for the assesment. Training Dates: TUESDAY 16TH FEB Assesment Dates: TBC BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Course This course is desiged to provide the participant with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely, and to be able to deal with common emergencies. These skills will form the basis of all safety and rescue training within the BCU scheme. The candidate should be at a 2 star standard, A first aid certificate is not a pre-requisite, however the holding of a first aid certificate is recommended for all paddlers. Minimum age 14 years old. Course Dates: SATURDAY 9th JANUARY INTRODUCTION TO MOVING WATER This is a one day course. By working on moving water you will enhance your basic paddling skills. Expieriencing the differnt way your boat reacts in moving water will allow you to develop the knowlrdge and skills to paddle on moving water safely. Course Dates ; THURSDAY 18th FEBUARY OPEN CANOEING SESSIONS (CANOEING) An intruduction to open boating (Canoeing) Learn the basic paddle strokes, find out how the craft handles, what effect the wind/conditions have on the craft.
